Real Experiences, Real Change

"I feel like I can live my life again without constantly thinking about how I feel."
Before working with Tami I felt like I had tried everything. I had been to therapy before and I knew a lot about anxiety and coping skills, but knowing what I was supposed to do didn't really change what was happening in my body. I was constantly paying attention to how I felt and worrying that something was wrong.
The somatic work was completely different than what I had done before. Instead of just talking about why I felt the way I did, we started paying attention to what was actually happening in my body in the moment. At first I wasn't even sure how that was supposed to help.
Over time I started noticing that my body didn't scare me as much. I wasn't checking every feeling or immediately assuming something was wrong. I still have symptoms sometimes, but they don't take over everything like they used to. I feel like I can live my life again without constantly thinking about how I feel.

"I'm getting better at asking myself what I actually want instead of immediately doing whatever will keep everyone else happy."
“I honestly thought I was pretty self-aware before I started working with Tami. I could tell you exactly why I did the things I did. I knew I was a people pleaser. I knew I took on too much. I knew I had a hard time saying no. I had talked about all of it before.
What I didn't realize was how automatic it all was in my body.
There were times in sessions when we would slow something down and I could actually feel myself getting uncomfortable just thinking about disappointing someone or not fixing something. That was probably the first time I realized this wasn't something I was going to think my way out of.
I still care about people and I still have a tendency to take on too much, but I catch it so much sooner now. I'm getting better at asking myself what I actually want instead of immediately doing whatever will keep everyone else happy. That has been a really big change for me.”

"Working with Tami was the first time I really paid attention to that part instead of trying to talk myself out of it."
“I had done traditional therapy for years and it helped me understand a lot about what happened to me. But I was frustrated because I could know something was in the past and my body would still react like it was happening right now.
Working with Tami was the first time I really paid attention to that part instead of trying to talk myself out of it.
There were things I had always thought were just me being too sensitive or overreacting that started making more sense. We didn't have to go through every detail of everything that happened. Sometimes we would just notice what my body was doing and work from there.
I don't feel like I became a different person. I just don't get pulled into the same reactions as easily. And when I do, I can usually recognize what is happening without immediately believing something is wrong with me.”

"I don't spend nearly as much time analyzing everything or trying to control how I'm going to feel."
“I came to Tami because I was tired of talking about the same things and still reacting the same way. I knew all the coping skills. I knew my triggers. I knew where a lot of it came from. I just couldn't figure out why knowing all of that wasn't enough.
The body work was weird to me at first honestly. It was very different from therapy I had done before. But it ended up being the piece I was missing.
I notice things now before they get so big. I don't spend nearly as much time analyzing everything or trying to control how I'm going to feel. I'm doing things again that I had slowly stopped doing because I was afraid of how my body would react.
That probably sounds small but it doesn't feel small to me.”
